Seek To Be Active
Remaining active is one of the best ways that people can fight off the aches and pains that come with old age. So whether you’re finally starting to feel your body stiffening up on you now that you’re in your 50s or 60s or you’re feeling a lot more pain as you rest in your assisted living facility, trying to be as active as you can may help you out a lot.
One of the biggest reasons why people might start to feel pain as they get older is because they have extra weight on their bodies. But by staying active, you can help to keep your body at a healthy weight and reduce the associated pain. Additionally, when you’ve moving your body more, you can help yourself stay flexible and keep more fluidity in your joints, which can also help with joint pain.
Put R.I.C.E. To Good Use
When you do start to feel the pain in your joints that is almost inevitable at some point in old age, one of the best things you can do to help reduce this pain is to put R.I.C.E. to good use. R.I.C.E. stands for rest, ice, compression, and elevation. So if you’re able to rest your joints, put some ice on them for 15 to 20 minutes, wrap them with a compression wrap, and put them up higher than your heart, you should be able to reduce some of the inflammation that’s causing the pain and get a bit of relief.
Focus More On Hydration
Another thing that you can do to fight off pain in the joints is to keep your body hydrated. Oftentimes, seniors find it hard to remember to drink as much water as they need to during the day. But this lack of hydration can cause all sorts of problems with your body, including increasing your joint pain due to the siphoning off of water from the cartilage around your joints. And when this happens, you have less lubrication of the joints and increased pain.
To avoid this, make sure you’re drinking enough water to keep your body and your joints properly hydrated.
